Construction of production location Ruinerwold makes steady progress
In recent years, the production and storage area in Ruinerwold started to become a bit tight. If we want to continue developing our business operations here, we need more space. Thanks to this new building, which is emerging behind the existing unit, we will have a larger, more efficiently equipped production area at our disposal. And that should keep us going for a while!
Two months ago, the green light was given to start construction. Since then, we’ve been able to follow the building work via live streams at all our sites.
We selected Dutch contractor Aan de Stegge to build the structure, which is being constructed as per the guidelines of the BREAAM method. The originally British BREEAM rating stands for ‘Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method’, a method for testing the sustainability performance of real estate. This method has been applied in the Netherlands since 2009 in the category New Construction and Refurbishment, and gives a sustainability level ranking of 1 to 5 stars.
For this project, we are aiming at the BREEAM Outstanding level, a 5-star rating. This means that various innovative and eco-friendly measures have been integrated in the design, including arrangements to save energy and water. A traffic plan has also been drawn up, with charging poles for electric cars being fitted. What’s more, an ecologist is keeping a close eye on the building work to ensure that the impact on flora and fauna in the immediate environment remains limited.
